My Biohacking Evolution Through Pregnancy & Postpartum

My Biohacking Evolution Through Pregnancy & Postpartum

From Mitochondria to Motherhood: My Story

I didn’t get into biohacking because it was trendy—I got into it because I was unwell.

My journey began with relentless gut issues: bloating, fatigue, food sensitivities, brain fog. I studied holistic nutrition thinking food alone would fix it—but I quickly realized that true healing required so much more. It wasn’t just about what I was eating. My body needed better sleep, nervous system regulation, optimized movement, detox support, and deeper alignment.

Eventually, my gut challenges progressed into hormonal imbalances, culminating in a PCOS diagnosis. As a woman immersed in the wellness space—and someone who dreamed of becoming a mother one day—this was a wake-up call. I knew I needed to take control of my health on every level.

I used biohacking to put my PCOS into remission.

How I Started Biohacking

I learned to optimize my workouts around my cycle. I invested in sleep—installing blackout curtains, using red light at night, wearing blue blockers, and sticking to a regular bedtime routine. I supported my blood sugar, reduced toxic exposure, tracked my data, and rebuilt trust in my body. Slowly, the symptoms faded. My periods became regular, my labs improved, and I ovulated like clockwork.

Then, after my husband and I completed my 90-day preconception program, fully committed to optimizing our fertility through nutrition, lifestyle, lab testing, and biohacking tools, I became pregnant with my first child—on the first try. It was a beautiful confirmation that the work we did mattered, that aligning our bodies before conception truly sets the foundation for a healthy pregnancy and a thriving baby.

And from that moment… everything changed.

Adjusting the Plan

As a high-performing wellness entrepreneur and someone deeply devoted to her health, I had envisioned an all-natural home birth. I had the midwife team, the doula, the tub, the plan. But as every mother knows, birth has its own agenda.

At 38 weeks, I found out my baby was breech. My primary midwife—who aligned perfectly with my health values—suddenly went on leave, and I was left navigating new decisions with a backup team I barely knew. Ultimately, I had an unplanned C-section in the hospital. It was the opposite of what I had envisioned, and yet, it was exactly what was meant for me and my baby.

And now, I’m a mother to a vibrant, curious, and incredibly loved 10-month-old baby boy named Callahan.

The Pregnancy and Postpartum Journey

Pregnancy and postpartum are the most humbling journeys I’ve ever walked. As a biohacker, I had to reimagine everything I thought I knew about optimization. I had to soften, surrender, and tune in more deeply than ever before.

What Pregnancy and Postpartum Taught Me

1) I'm still taking my prenatals today

Yes, 10 months postpartum and it’s non-negotiable. I love WeNatal. Birth is depleting. It’s estimated to take at least two years to fully replenish the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients lost through pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding. This is one of the most overlooked postpartum biohacks: keep nourishing yourself, long after the baby arrives.

2) I got my period back at 4 months postpartum

I was shocked—but grateful. It was an early sign that my hormones were rebalancing and my body was recovering well. While every woman is different, this was a personal marker of progress.

3) I invested deeply in postpartum recovery

At 6 weeks, I started a gentle C-section-specific movement program focused on breath work, core reconnection, and fascia release. I went to pelvic floor physiotherapy to address internal healing, organ positioning, and function—a must for every mom, C-section or not.

4) Scar care became sacred

I used Red Light Therapy daily on my incision to reduce inflammation and support collagen production. I practiced scar massage with castor oil and applied gentle pressure to reduce adhesions. I even added a mirror to my shower so I could see and connect with my scar—because looking at it helped me heal emotionally, not just physically.

5) Hydration and nutrition were my foundation

I scattered large water bottles around my home and added minerals to every glass. I prepped warming, protein-rich meals and one-handed snacks. Breastfeeding required more calories, more nutrients, and more grace than I ever expected.

6) Brain fog and fatigue were real–but manageable

I continued omega-3s (like fermented cod liver oil) and C15:0 essential fatty acids (Fatty15 is my favorite), and focused on stabilizing my blood sugar with balanced meals. And yes—coconut milk ice cream became my nightly ritual during those hard early months. Biohacking is also about joy and softness when you need it most.

7) Community mattered

I leaned into my intuition and asked for help in ways that felt safe. I allowed others to care for me, while I was caring for my baby. I drew boundaries slowly and gently, but I drew them nonetheless.

What I Learned Through Becoming a Mother and Biohacking

This season of life—pregnancy, birth, and postpartum—has taught me more than years of biohacking ever could. It’s shown me that true health isn’t just about performance, but presence. That softness can be strength. That slowing down is sometimes the smartest upgrade you can make.

To all the high-achieving, wellness-loving women out there: you can still optimize your health and surrender to what is. These two things are not opposites—they’re sacred partners in your journey.

And if you’re navigating motherhood right now, know this:

You don’t need to bounce back. You need to come home—to yourself, your body, and your intuition. That is the ultimate biohack.
