Why We Created the Pro Laser Renewal Wand: Cold Laser, LED, + Cryo in One Tool

Why We Created the Pro Laser Renewal Wand: Cold Laser, LED, + Cryo in One Tool

One morning you wake up puffy. The next, a breakout appears, or even just a lone pimple at the most inconvenient time. Meanwhile, fine lines, changes in firmness, and uneven texture are longer-term concerns that we're thinking about when we look in the mirror. Skin isn't the same every day, and we wanted something that could keep up with both what your skin needs right now and where you want it to go.

That's the idea behind the Pro Laser Renewal Wand: a pocket aesthetician that fits into your existing ritual. We had a few goals in mind when developing it: deliver effective technologies we associate with professional skin treatments, make it intuitive and easy to use, and support whatever your skin needs that day.

I spend a lot of time talking to people who really understand skin—from dermatologists and skincare formulators to beauty experts and affiliates with the kind of glass skin everyone wants to know the secret behind. And despite different routines, treatments and philosophies, there's one thing I hear over and over: consistency is the key to results. The most effective skincare ritual is ultimately the one you'll keep doing. The Pro Laser Renewal Wand makes consistency easy because it allows for tailored treatments on a daily basis and often with results you can see very quickly.

Key Takeaways

  • The Pro Laser Renewal Wand combines three 808nm cold lasers with 630nm red, 830nm near-infrared, and 415nm blue LED light, plus a swappable cryo head.

  • A cold laser isn't literally cold. The term refers to low-level laser light that doesn't heat, ablate, or resurface skin the way professional lasers do.

  • Laser light is precise and directional, while LEDs cover a broader area. Tone + Tighten uses both at once.

  • Each mode has one job: Tone + Tighten for firmness and fine lines, Clear + Calm for breakouts, and Depuff + Cool for soothing and sculpting.

  • The Light-Activated Peptide Serum and Hydrating Botanical Facial Mist were developed alongside the Wand and work on their own, too.

  • Consistency beats intensity. A flexible five- to fourteen-minute routine you'll actually keep is the point.

What Does the Pro Laser Renewal Wand Do? We Started with Skin Concerns, Not Technology

The Pro Laser Renewal Wand is a handheld device with three modes, each built for a specific concern: Tone + Tighten for fine lines and firmness, Clear + Calm for breakouts and redness, and Cryo mode for puffiness.

When we began developing the Pro Laser, we didn't start by making a list of technologies we wanted to fit inside a wand. We worked backwards.

We looked at the concerns people consistently want to address, both long-term and short-term: fine lines, changes in firmness and texture, breakouts, redness, puffiness, and overall skin vitality.

We then chose technologies that best addressed those concerns. That development philosophy is ultimately what shaped the three modes of the Pro Laser Renewal Wand.

Tone + Tighten: For Fine Lines, Firmness, and Texture

Tone + Tighten combines 808 nm cold laser with 630 nm red light and 830 nm near-infrared light for targeted skin renewal and concerns around fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, and texture. And like other red light products, it's perfect for a daily glow-up routine too.

Clear + Calm: For Breakouts and Redness

Clear + Calm utilizes 415 nm blue light for blemish-prone skin and helps to target acne-causing bacteria during breakouts and alleviate redness.

Depuff + Cool: For Soothing and Sculpting

Depuff + Cool swaps light for precision cooling, creating a completely different experience designed to visibly depuff, refresh, and sculpt.

Rather than asking one technology to do everything, we built each mode to have a specific job and made it easy to go back and forth between them.

Cold Laser vs. LED: Why We Expanded Beyond Red Light

Both deliver light to the skin, but differently. LEDs spread light over a wider area, which suits full-face devices. Laser light is coherent and highly directional, which suits a handheld tool built to target specific areas. The Pro Laser Renewal Wand uses both together.

Red light will always be foundational to HigherDOSE. We've spent years building products and rituals around the power of light, and there's a reason LED has become such an important part of at-home skincare. LEDs are incredibly effective at delivering light across a broader treatment area, which makes them ideal for something like our Red Light Face Mask: consistent, full-face exposure in an effortless, hands-free ritual.

But with the Pro Laser Renewal Wand, we wanted more. We wanted precision.

Where LEDs naturally emit light over a wider area, laser light is coherent and highly directional. Rather than replacing LEDs, lasers gave us another way to deliver light that made sense for a handheld device designed to focus attention to specific areas of concern.

What Is a Cold Laser?

For the Pro Laser Renewal Wand, we added three 808 nm lasers, a form of low-level laser light used for non-ablative light therapy. Despite the name, a cold laser isn't literally cold—the term distinguishes this type of low-level laser from the higher-powered lasers used in professional treatments to intentionally heat, ablate, or resurface the skin. Our optical lens is designed to help mitigate heat at the skin, keeping the treatment comfortable as you move and hold the Wand over targeted areas. No numbing cream, no downtime, no harsh treatments.

Why We Combined Laser and LED in One Mode

And instead of choosing between laser and LED, we combined them. In Tone + Tighten, the precision of the 808 nm cold laser works alongside 630 nm red and 830 nm near-infrared LEDs, giving us targeted laser light alongside broader LED illumination in the same treatment.

Because skin doesn't have just one need, we expanded the technology beyond what you'd typically expect from a laser device, adding 415 nm blue light for blemish-prone skin and interchangeable cryo technology for cooling, depuffing, and sculpting.

Why We Added Blue Light: When You Need It, You Need It

If you wake up with a breakout, your immediate skin priority probably isn't the fine line next to it. It's the zit glaring at you in the mirror! Most of us have been there.

That's why we created Clear + Calm. Blue light gave us the ability to build a mode specifically around blemish-prone skin. At 415 nm, blue light is used to help target acne-associated bacteria and support clearer-looking skin.

Although you might not need this daily or use it as often as the red light, when you need it, you really need it. Even in my 40s, I get pimples or full-blown breakouts regularly. I thought I would grow out of this, but not yet. So even though the Tone + Tighten mode is what I use most often, I usually have a zit or two that I target with the blue light at least once a week.

A note on blue light: it may not be appropriate for darker skin tones. If you're unsure whether it's right for you, check with your dermatologist first.

Why We Added Cryo: You Feel It Immediately

Not everything we wanted from this product was about long-term skin renewal. Sometimes you want to look in the mirror and do something right now. That's where cryo sculpting came in.

The interchangeable cooling attachment transforms the Wand into a precision facial massage tool. You can glide it upward and outward across the face, along the jawline and cheekbones, or underneath the eyes for a cooling ritual designed to help visibly depuff, refresh, and sculpt.

We also designed the shape intentionally around movement. We wanted it to feel intuitive—almost like a high-tech evolution of a gua sha ritual.

And because it is a separate attachment, you don't have to perform the same ritual every time you pick up the device. Some days might be light therapy. Some might be Cryo. Some might be both.

Light-Activated Skincare: The System That Sets Us Apart

I'm obsessed with using both the Light-Activated Peptide Serum and the Hydrating Botanical Facial Mist. I actually keep both in my bag with me when I go anywhere because a quick spritz or a few pumps of the serum (even over makeup) gives me an immediate hydrating pick-me-up.

For us, light-activated skincare didn't start with the Pro Laser. Years ago, we created our Light-Activated Glow Serum to pair with the Red Light Face Mask, and later brought the same philosophy to hair health with our Light-Activated Scalp Serum and Red Light Hat.

Red light therapy activates cellular energy and repair pathways, but the quality of the response depends on whether skin has the nutrients, signaling molecules, hydration, and antioxidant support needed to fully capitalize on that energy. HigherDOSE skincare is designed to optimize every stage of that response.

So we developed the Light-Activated Peptide Serum and Hydrating Botanical Facial Mist as part of the Pro Laser ritual from the start. Each stands on its own as great skincare, but together with the Pro Laser Renewal Wand, they represent what we love most: technology and targeted actives, designed as one ritual.

Light-Activated Peptide Serum

This is our more advanced approach to peptide skincare, built around pure GHK-Cu copper peptide (red light responsive) alongside a multi-peptide complex and supporting actives for firmness, elasticity, hydration, and radiance.

Why we love it:

  • Pure GHK-Cu Copper Peptide — supports collagen production and skin renewal.

  • Advanced Multi-Peptide Complex — 4 additional peptides that work synergistically with GHK-Cu to support firmer, more elastic-looking skin.

  • Niacinamide + Japanese Kelp — help brighten, support the skin barrier, and provide antioxidant support.

  • Multi-Weight Hyaluronic Acid — delivers immediate hydration while helping maintain moisture.

The result is a serum designed to support the skin's natural repair response, improve the look of firmness and elasticity, brighten uneven-looking tone, and deliver lasting hydration and barrier support.

Hydrating Botanical Facial Mist

The Mist has a different job. We wanted something we could use before, during, and after the Wand to keep skin hydrated, comfortable, and refreshed—and something you'd still want sitting on your desk or in your bag when you're not doing light therapy.

Why we love it:

  • Organic Green Tea Water — antioxidant-rich botanical support that complements our red light ritual.

  • Ectoin — deeply hydrates while helping strengthen the skin barrier and defend against environmental stress.

  • Organic Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kola) — helps calm skin while supporting collagen and healthy barrier function.

  • Organic Calendula Water + Betaine — soothes, replenishes moisture, and helps maintain healthy hydration.

It's the product I keep coming back to throughout a treatment: I re-mist whenever my skin wants more hydration and slip.

Do Light-Activated Products Work Without the Wand?

Yes. Light-activated doesn't mean light-dependent. These are powerful topicals designed to deliver skin-nourishing benefits all on their own. But paired with red light, they become part of a powerhouse ritual: advanced light technology alongside peptides, hydration, antioxidants, and barrier support.

And just as importantly, they feel incredible to use. They're the kind of products you crave in your routine because your skin feels hydrated, nourished, and glowing afterward. That combination—visible benefits and an experience you actually look forward to—is what keeps you coming back.

How I Use the Pro Laser Renewal Wand: My Real Routine

For a step-by-step guide to using the Wand, including prep and per-area hold times, see our full how-to. Here's how I've been using the Wand:

A close-up selfie of a woman with numbered circles and colored ovals highlighting different areas of her face and neck, likely for skincare or makeup demonstration purposes.

I start with clean skin, then the Hydrating Botanical Facial Mist and Light-Activated Peptide Serum.

  1. Forehead: Clear + Calm (blue light), 3 minutes. I'm breaking out here. It's a gut issue I deal with often, so I use blue light to help calm breakouts and target acne-causing bacteria while I work on the underlying gut problem. I did 3 minutes this morning and will do another 3 tonight.
  2. Around the eyes: Tone + Tighten (red light), 6 minutes. I hold the Wand for 1 minute on each circled area, 6 minutes total.
  3. Jaw and cheekbones: Cryo, 1 to 2 minutes. I like to finish with cryo, though it could go first (no rules!). I move it across my whole face, pause at my jaw, which holds a lot of tension, sculpt along my cheekbones, then wake up my eye area.
  4. Neck: Tone + Tighten (red light), 10 minutes. I use red light on my neck to help support skin regeneration, toning, and tightening. I usually do 10 minutes separately from my face, while I'm lounging on the couch or at my WFH desk.

I put together a little face diagram to show how I'm using the Wand lately, but the truth is there are no hard rules to my routine. Tone + Tighten is the mode I use the most often because at 42 I'm thinking about skin laxity, crows feet (seems to have gotten worse overnight), and my neck lines more than I was 10 years ago. Today I did the routine outlined in my photo. Some mornings I'll do five minutes, then another five minutes of Tone + Tighten after washing my face that night. Other days, I might do cryo for a few minutes before a 3 PM call when my skin just needs to look a little more awake.

Right now, my skin is a perfect example of why we wanted a device that could adapt. I just traveled; I've been working long hours, eating differently, not drinking enough water, and I'm stressed. As a result, my forehead is breaking out, which is an area that tends to act up for me when my routine is off. So today I can address that while still staying consistent with the longer-term work I'm doing around my eyes, face, and neck.

I genuinely notice a difference after even a 10-minute ritual. Before-and-after photos are notoriously hard to take on yourself under identical conditions, but this morning the difference I noticed most was around my eyes. They looked more open, refreshed, and alive after using the Wand. See below!

Before and after comparison of a woman's eyes showing the effects of a laser treatment, with text reading 'BEFORE' and 'AFTER 10 minutes with the Pro Laser Renewal Wand' on a light beige background.

My 14-Minute Face Routine

  • 10 min Tone + Tighten: Hydrating Botanical Mist + 2 pumps of Light-Activated Peptide Serum → ~4 minutes of sweeping, gua sha-inspired movements → ~6 minutes holding for 1 minute at a time around my crow's feet, above the brows, and under the eyes. I re-mist whenever I want more hydration and slip.

  • 3 min Clear + Calm: Focused on my forehead, where I'm currently breaking out.

  • 1 min Cryo: Quick upward and outward sweeps for a cooling, refreshing finish.

Tone + Tighten on My Neck

10 min Tone + Tighten on my neck, usually while watching TV or lounging in the evening.

Some days it's 14 minutes. Some days it's five. Sometimes I only get to the cryo. For me, consistency doesn't mean doing the exact same routine every day. It means having something flexible enough that I actually want to keep using it. These small routines add up in the long run.

Why I Moved Toward Gentler Treatments

That flexibility is a big part of why the Wand is working for me. After decades of putting my skin through the wringer with aggressive lasers, too-deep microneedling, and harsh peels, over the last year I've been intentionally moving toward gentler, more supportive treatments I can actually stay consistent with. I no longer believe I have to intentionally damage my skin to make it look better. And after a recent facial where my aesthetician mentioned seeing grid marks from an RF microneedling treatment I did 3 years ago, I won't be doing anything that invasive again.

Versatility Supports Consistency

We can spend years developing wavelengths, optics, formulas, and treatment protocols (and we do) but none of that matters if the finished product ends up sitting in a drawer.

Ultimately, versatility supports consistency. If I can reach for the same device when I'm puffy, when a breakout appears, and for my longer-term goals around fine lines and firmness, it has a reason to stay on my counter and in my routine.

That's why we created the Pro Laser Renewal Wand. Not to give you another beauty device, but to give you one you'll keep reaching for and one that delivers results you can see today and over time.

Pro Laser Renewal Wand FAQs

What's the difference between a cold laser and LED light therapy?

LEDs spread light across a wider area, which makes them ideal for full-face, hands-free devices like the Red Light Face Mask. Laser light is coherent and highly directional, so it suits targeting specific areas. In Tone + Tighten, the Pro Laser Renewal Wand pairs an 808nm cold laser with 630nm red and 830nm near-infrared LEDs.

Does a cold laser heat or resurface the skin?

No. "Cold laser" refers to low-level, non-ablative laser light, as distinct from the higher-powered professional lasers that intentionally heat, ablate, or resurface skin. The Wand's optical lens is designed to help mitigate heat at the skin, so there's no numbing cream and no downtime.

How long is a Pro Laser Renewal Wand session?

Tone + Tighten shuts off automatically at 15 minutes, and Clear + Calm and cryo at 10. A full face routine can run anywhere from five to 14 minutes. For per-area hold times, see our step-by-step guide.

Do the Light-Activated Peptide Serum and Facial Mist work without the Wand?

Yes. Light-activated doesn't mean light-dependent. Both are designed to deliver skin benefits on their own, and they become part of a fuller ritual when paired with red light.

Does the Pro Laser Renewal Wand replace the Red Light Face Mask?

No. The Wand was designed to add to LED, not replace it. The mask delivers consistent, full-face exposure hands-free, while the Wand adds laser precision for specific areas, plus blue light and cryo.

How often should you use the Clear + Calm blue light mode?

Clear + Calm is built for breakouts when they appear, not daily full-face use. Blue light may not be appropriate for darker skin tones, so check with your dermatologist if you're unsure.
