Dads Who DOSE: Meet David Nicomini

This Father’s Day, we’re shining a light on the men who show up, lean in, and occasionally get talked into a colonic “for research.” Meet David Nicomini, husband to our co-founder and co-CEO Lauren and Dad to twins, who’s been riding shotgun on this biohacking journey from day one. From red light therapy to clean eating (well, mostly), he’s embraced the wellness lifestyle in his own way: equal parts curious, supportive, and hilariously honest. We asked him to share what it’s really like living with a health-optimizing powerhouse, what routines have actually stuck, and the advice he’d give to other guys navigating fatherhood and wellness. Spoiler: it's all about showing up for yourself so you can show up for your kids.

What Does Life Look Like Being Married To A Biohacker? Give us the behind-the-scenes version of what it's like living with someone who's constantly experimenting in the name of wellness.

Well, it’s part-time fascinating, part-time exciting and often frustrating. It’s fascinating to see someone do what they truly love for work and really walk the walk of health optimization. It’s exciting because I am constantly learning about new topics and modalities to better care for yourself and our family. But it can also be frustrating, as I live under the watchful eye of someone who cares most about health so all my moves, what I eat, how much I drink, etc can often come under a bit of scrutiny. I just know it’s how Lauren shows how much she cares about me!

What's the weirdest or funniest thing Lauren's ever asked you to try in the name of "research"? Cryotherapy at 6AM? Mushroom tea taste tests? We want the good stuff.

Honestly, for me it was probably trying a colonic. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always down to be very experimental, but there is something about getting a colonic that just makes you feel vulnerable and while beneficial, it can be an uncomfortable thing to do.

Over the years, what self-care habits or wellness tricks have stuck with you? Do you have a go-to recovery ritual after a long day or tough workout? Something simple that makes you feel better when you’re off your game?

Simply eating a much cleaner diet. Lauren might disagree, she would say I still don’t eat well, but I think compared to most it’s a pretty damn clean diet! Other than that, infrared saunas and red light therapy are always a go-to for me. I love a sauna session, because it’s one thing in particular that just works every time you do it.

How has becoming a dad shifted your perspective on health, energy, or downtime?

Becoming a father didn’t shift my perspective as much as it forced me to better schedule and prioritize my time accordingly. Before having children, life was simple in that you have all this time for yourself. When you have kids, they immediately become priority number one, requiring a ton of time and attention – especially when you get twins right out of the gate! It’s taken some time but I’ve learned how to fit “my things” in a way that worked around their schedule.

Any advice or encouragement for other men looking to prioritize their health, even in small ways?

Just know that you are your kids' most formative model for life and they soak everything up. By putting in the work and bettering yourself, it will naturally reflect on them and help shape their perspective well into adulthood. It's never too late to get started.
